And so far, the Democrats in Congress have not drafted a bill I could sign. We've worked hard and in good faith with the Democrats to find a solution, but we are not going to put our national security at risk. Time is short. I'm going to ask Congress to stay in session until they pass a bill that will give our intelligence community the tools they need to protect the United States.
Is George Bush actually accusing the 110th Congress of not working enough? That's funny, considering that when Congress was run by the Republics, they were the laziest, do-nothingest Congress since 1948. According to Duh Fuhrer, for six years American intelligence services have been operating without "the tools they need to protect the United States." Yet somehow, it's only become a priority now. Hmmm. What could possibly have changed?
If I weren't such a fervent believer in Fake Security Uber Alles, I might suspect that Dear Leader's sudden sense of urgency has something to do with the latest revelation that the Bush Administration has not only been illegally wiretapping through the NSA, but has also been using other secret programs to spy on Americans, at least some portions of which have lately been deemed illegal by the FISA court. And I might conclude that Rove and his merry band of evildoers are trying to brand the Democrats as Weak On Terrorism for the 8,932nd time.
The hypocrisy is stunning. Bush has never followed any of these laws before, and now that he's being subjected to oversight for the first time in his illegal presidency, he's trying to pressure the Democrats to pass toothless reforms that will put a stamp of legitimacy on his lawbreaking.
If I were Harry Reid, I'd say this to Bush:

But first, we'll deal with more pressing issues, such as impeachment of Alberto Gonzales and Dick Cheney, and inherent contempt charges for Karl Rove, Harriet Miers, Josh Bolten and General Kensinger. And also, we won't wait till General Petraeus gives his report on Iraq in September; we'll hold votes on withdrawal plans once a day until we've got 67 votes. Once Cheney's impeached, of course, we'll impeach you too. How does that sound, George?"
