This campaign must be making me sick...anyway, here's some good news that does not involve Election 2008.
Yes, you can be pro-peace AND pro-Israel. Just meet me on...J Street.
Such a mitzvah!
Yes, you can be pro-peace AND pro-Israel. Just meet me on...J Street.
J Street represents Americans, primarily but not exclusively Jewish, who support Israel and its desire for security as the Jewish homeland, as well as the right of the Palestinians to a sovereign state of their own - two states living side-by-side in peace and security. We believe ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is in the best interests of Israel, the United States, the Palestinians, and the region as a whole.Good for them. It's about time some rational voices countered the extreme right-wing influence of AIPAC on American politics.
J Street supports diplomatic solutions over military ones, including in Iran; multilateral over unilateral approaches to conflict resolution; and dialogue over confrontation with a wide range of countries and actors when conflicts do arise. For more on our policy positions, click here.
J Street will advocate forcefully in the policy process, in Congress, in the media, and in the Jewish community to make sure public officials and community leaders clearly see the depth and breadth of support for our views on Middle East policy among voters and supporters in their states and districts. We seek to complement the work of existing organizations and individuals that share our agenda. In our lobbying and advocacy efforts, we will enlist individual supporters of other efforts as partners.
Such a mitzvah!

Conflict resolution through negotiation can be accomplished because it causes all sides to weigh their options, understand their competitors and choose the best outcome for all concerned. I am cautiously optimistic about Carter's recent efforts, given his proven track record and wisdom.
I had been captivated by the ideas of Yitzhak Rabin. His assassination came at a time when I was searching and questioning very much in my own life. It was a devastating loss. No one ever really took up his mantle of reconciliation again in such a pure and loving way. I have watched Israel feel more and more threatened ever since.
It was my connection to Rabin that formed my idea of a mystic communion between the true soldier and the peace freak.
The best of luck and great kudos to the organizers of 'J' Street.
I was young, but still devastated, when Rabin was killed. It was such a hopeful time. Things have been getting scarier in the Middle East ever since then, despite a small respite during the Clinton years.
I am so happy that the obvious need for rapprochement is being seen and acted upon by the liberal Jewish community. I hope to have time to devote more blogspace to J Street in the future.
