Don't get me wrong. My heart goes out to the people of Minneapolis today. I can't imagine the fear, pain and desperation of those who were involved in any way with the collapse of that bridge yesterday.
But my Jeebus, what did people expect to happen? Does anyone remember that the reason the levees broke in New Orleans was because the Republics DEFUNDED FEMA? Does anyone notice the blackouts and brownouts that happen with more and more frequency every year? You know that giant pothole in your street? It's not getting repaired any time soon, is it? And remember that steam pipe that burst in New York? It was 84 YEARS OLD. So how in the name of all that is sacred can the American people think that these things will not break down? Do they think that Harry Potter will wave his wand and whisper "Reparo!" and all will be well?
I cannot stress this enough: Republics don't believe in government. They hate it, in fact, because it gets in the way of their profits. And no matter what pretty picture of American bootstrappiness they sell you, their bottom line is greed. PERIOD.
If modern conservatives are still moronic enough to believe that people who hate government should be running it, then they deserve whatever they get. But the sad, horrible thing is, they have dragged the rest of us down with them. Enough is enough. We must purge the cancer of Reagan conservatism from our society. It's a far greater danger to America than any terrorist attack could ever be.
Just ask the people of Minnesota, New Orleans, California, New York...

at the same time, of course, the corporatists expect the govt to supply roads and bridges to transport goods to the market.
but don't dare talk about big brother monetarily helping the survivors, and the first lawsuit against the DOT will bring fresh howls of "tort reform"
